The Coming Retirement Boom by the Center for Financial Services
October 24, 2008
DePaul Center at 1 E. Jackson, Room 8005
They are the largest generation in U.S. history. This year, the oldest of the 79 million baby boomers born from 1946 through 1964 turn 62. Projected to live longer than any previous generation of Americans, they will have the longest retirments as well. Boomers are diverse inculture, education, income and lifestyle. The disparity in wealth and income is only expected to increase as boomers grow older.
How are financial service firms responding to this advancing tide? What are the strategies for capturing a piece of this market? What product and service innovations are emerging to meet the demands boomers will inevitably make of their financial advisers and service providers?
On October 24, the Cener for Financial Services at DePaul University, along with support from LPL Financial Services, will sponsor a conference that will look at this issue through a series of panels and workshops introduced with a keynote address by Rick Waddell, CEO of Northern Trust. Other panelists include representatives from LPL Financial, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, US Trust Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and Northern Trust. Roundtable discussion on the risk modeling in this volatile marketplace
Presented by: Fred Arditti Risk Management Center
April 22, 2008
Room 8005, DePaul Center
Dan diBartolomeo spoke on "Short Term Risk from Long Term Models". With the proliferation of algorithmic trading, derivative usage and highly leveraged hedge funds, the asset management community has increasing need for risk models focused on much shorter time horizons, often just a single day. The first portion of the presentation will focus on the investment policy implications of this trend, while the latter portion will provide an analytical framework for combining new information sources with traditional long horizon risk models in order to get a coherent measure of risk across the entire horizon spectrum from one day to one year. These new information sources include implied volatility from stock options, the cross-sectional dispersion of security returns and range-based volatility estimators.
