Why Major or Minor in Finance

 

The Department of Finance provides a curriculum which enables all students in the College of Commerce to acquire a basic understanding of the public and private financial processes, which affect all aspects of business, government and personal investments. It provides a strong foundation for students with career goals related to corporate financial management, investment analysis and management, risk management, management consulting, banking and other financial institution administration.

We offer a wide array of courses. Depending on career goals, students can choose their electives in a manner that would emphasize selected fields, including the following:

  • Corporate Financial Management: This emphasis prepares students for careers in the financial management area in any type of business or corporation.

  • Investment Analysis/Management: This emphasis is for students interested in financial markets, investment banking and portfolio management.

  • Banking and Financial Services: This emphasis prepares students for careers in banking and in the financial services industry in general. These include commercial and consumer lending, credit analysis, leasing, and personal financial planning.

  • Risk Management: This emphasis prepares students for a career in the dynamic field of derivatives and risk management.
