FIN 395/595 - Applied Portfolio Management (4 hrs.)
This course offers a unique opportunity to manage a portfolio of approximately $350,000 and make buy and sell decisions affecting the portfolio’s bottom-line. The students will also meet and interact with some of the nation’s leading money/portfolio managers. Among those invited to participate are: T. Boone Pickens, Mario Gabelli, John Rogers, Richard Driehaus, Rex Sinquefield and John Keeley.
This course is an applied investments seminar with the objective of providing students with hands on, practical portfolio management experience. Students will study the application of investment and portfolio theory, manage a portfolio of real money, and meet with industry professionals. The course is designed to cover the September to May period. Students will develop an investment strategy and deploy the pool of available funds. They will also monitor the portfolio and reallocate funds as necessary. A final presentation on strategy and performance will complete the class.
The class will be team taught by one of Chicago’s top money mangers, Mr. John Keeley, and by the most recent additions to DePaul’s rank of endowed professors, Dr. Jim Booth.
